The Victoria Island Aboriginal Centre is located on the Ottawa River between Ottawa, Ontario and Hull, Quebec. The island has had a rich and varied history; for thousands of years it was sacred ground where local tribes would meet to discuss and share their resources, keeping in harmony with nature acting as guardians of this land. In the 1800’s, the falls were used to power a carbide mill, creating the industry that helped make Ottawa into what it is today. The future of the island is one of celebration, knowledge and healing. The Victoria Island Aboriginal Centre will provide the opportunity to share in the rich cultural diversity of the Nations Capital. Values and ideologies of Canada’s indigenous people will be shared in ceremonial spaces, galleries, museums, library and archives, learning centres, and art studios. |
